Government has assured the people that every measure will be exhausted to ensure their safety. The assurance is to calm public fears following the recent surge of criminal activities in the country that have resulted in brutal beatings, kidnapping and fatalities.

Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda, who issued the government statement, was responding to a direct a question by Sikonge Member of Parliament Saidi Nkumba (CCM) who wanted to know what action the government was taking to ensure that people were safe in the country.

He said the recent crimes occurred in the country including the attack and murder of a tourist in Serengeti; human trafficking which resulted into death of 43 Ethiopians and Kidnapping of Dr. Steven Ulimboka has created fear in the public.

Nkumba did recognize that the fourth phase government has for the most part succeeded in curbing crime but fear has been sparked given the resurgence of violent criminal acts hence his query.

Responding, Pinda admitted that such incidents were a threat to the wananchi but that the government had started working on them. He mentioned that preliminary discussions on proper response were on way at the National Security Council.
