The Tanzania People’s Defence Forces needs 109,190,000/- to undertake rehabilitation of the Potoa Military Camp located in Unguja, Zanzibar, the parliament heard yesterday.
Responding to a basic question posed by Jaddy Simai Jaddy (Mkwajuni, CCM), Defence and National Service Minister Dr Hussein Mwinyi said plans were underway to undertake the task.
However, he acknowledged that most military camps in the country were in bad shape, saying the government would rehabilitate them step by step through a loan from the government of China.
Dr Mwinyi said his ministry was aware of the poor state of the Potoa camp that’s why experts were evaluating the condition of available infrastructure there to establish the actual needs.
He said rehabilitation works would cover offices, soldiers’ quarters, water and sewage infrastructure, telephone lines and electricity supply.
