Physical education seminar ends today
A Two-Day international inspiration seminar hosted by the British Council in Dar es Salaam to support schools teaching physical education in the country ends today.
The seminar was opened yesterday in Dar es Salaam by the Director of Sports in the ministry of Youth, Culture, Information and Sports, Leonard Thadeo.
According to the British Council director, Sally Robinson, the seminar is attended by regional administrative secretaries, regional educational and sports officers and also school heads from 15 regions.
The seminar is also being attended by officials from athletics, football and volleyball associations.
Robinson said the purpose of the seminar is to support schools currently participating in the international inspirations programs to enable physical education teachers to offer students the option of taking physical education lessons and sit national examinations for the subject.
The other purpose of the seminar, according to Robinson, is to garner support from regional government leadership and also have wider sustainable for physical education and sports.
“The other purpose of the seminar is to strengthen the sports associations, currently participating in the program, through supporting a coordinate approach within the five regions of Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Arusha, Ruvuma and Mjini Magharibi in Zanzibar,” said Robinson.
The director explained that the international inspiration is a program which delivers London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics bid which promises to reach young people around the world and connect them to the inspirational power of the Games.
Robinson said in the country the international inspirational will reach two million children and encourages them to get involved in sports by 2013.
“For those children engaging in sports will help them develop critical life skills such as organization, leadership and teamwork and also values such as respect, inclusion, fair play and willingness to volunteer,” said the director.
