Dar Club to host swimming course

Over hundred people are expected to attend a two-day swimming and safety course to be held in July, courtesy of the Tanzania Marine Swimming Club of Dar es Salaam.

The club’s chairman, Geoffrey Kimimba, said the course will start on July 16 at Mwalimu Nyerere College in Kigamboni.

Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) have committed to pump 5m/- to facilitate staging of the course for the swimming fraternity in the country.

Kimimba said his club has extended invitation to all people who use water transport on daily basis and those who live in flood-prone areas, including those who have never attempted to swim.

He said the course will help the participants to know how to swim during difficult times, use swimming equipment, rescuing and other safety issues.

“The two-day event is expected cover a lot of swimming and safety aspects and the attendants would make use of the Indian Ocean for practice sessions. We are very grateful to TCRA facilitating the course,” he said.

Currently, TCRA has agreed to field 20 people same as Tanzania Investment Bank while negotiations are underway to convince other companies and organisations to send representatives to the course.

Kimimba said his club has full support from the Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) in hosting the event. He said TSA has encouraged them to stage the event as part and efforts to highlight swimming promotion.

He named instructors who will conduct the seminar as himself, Gabriel Mwambete, Ali Twala, Tare Kalua and Peter Temu.

He also urged other companies and organisations to help the club so that it can take safety and swimming lessons to other parts of the country.
