



Vice President's Office in Zanzibar in collaboration with the President's Office has begun working on the challenges facing people with disabilities. The two offices seek to ensure that those who qualify for jobs are employed.
State Minister, First Vice President's Office, Fatma Abdulhabib Ferej informed the house of representatives on Tuesday as she responded to a question by Representative (Special Seat) Mwanajuka Faki Mdachi inquiring on the matter.
“Providing access to employment for the disabled…” explained the minister, “…is paramount if the country's economy is to grow and poverty reduce…”
The minister was optimistic that although, in her words, the government is facing ‘tight liquidity moments’ it will still strive to provide folks with disabilities the relevant working equipment to necessary for self employment.
She however admitted that people the disabled confront much bigger challenges while seeking employment opportunities rendering their lives miserable.
“Let me admit before members of the House that the question of people with disabilities is a challenging one in our country," said the upfront and bold Fatma.
“Mr. Speaker…” she continued “…I don't want to preempt the budget but let me assure the House that my ministry has set aside funds to purchase equipment for people with disabilities…"
