Natioanal Assembly Speaker Anne Makinda has called on regional, district and ward executive directors to be creative in solving various problems facing the people as a means of complimenting government efforts to alleviate poverty in the country.
The Speaker, who is also Njombe South legislator on the CCM ticket, made the call yesterday in Dar es Salaam at the handover of road construction equipment donated to Njombe Town Council by GF Trucks and Equipment Company worth 716m/-.

Makinda said local government directors needed to change their mindset, especially when an opportunity knocked on their door.
“The government has been working hard to ensure a better life for its citizens, but our implementers, most of whom are district council directors and ward executives, still face the challenge of identifying opportunities and working on them,” she said.
She added that, due to their failure to meet the challenges facing their areas owing to lack of commitment, government funds in the form of grants were often returned unused.
“I thank the Njombe town director for his commitment to ensure that the area’s communication system is improved.”
She explained that Njombe district is a wetland which during the rainy season most roads become impassable.
For his part, Njombe town director George Mkindo pointed out that since the establishment of the council in 2007, Njombe township has been facing numerous challenges, including unplanned settlements.
With the acquired machines, he said, the council would be able to improve its infrastructure to easey movement and transport of food items and other goods to other parts of the country.
For his part, GF Trucks and Equipment marketing officer Juma Hamis hailed the efforts taken by Njombe town council, saying other councils in the country should take the chance to benefit from a special promotion announced by the company earlier this year.
