Ministry for Information, Youth, Culture and Sports will this year table in the National Assembly a bill for a law to set up the National Youth Council following the adaptation of its Policy in 2007, the House was told yesterday.

The deputy minister Amos Makalla said this in the House when reacting to a supplementary question asked by Special seats MP Sara Msafiri Ally (CCM).

The Legislator wanted to know when the draft bill will be tabled in the House to pave way for formulation of the binding laws.

According to the deputy minister, the establishment and adaptation of the national youth council will bring together youths regardless of their political ideology, religion, gender and tribal affiliations.

Makalla said the ministry had already formulated the documents and submitted them to the cabinet secretariat for a go ahead to draw up the bill for a law to institutionalize the youth council.

“The national youth policy of 2007 gives directives for the formation of the national youth council. It has taken time but the government is now finalising documentation to bring the policy into reality,” he said. The deputy minister said the ministry would seek views from stakeholders before bringing the bill to parliament.

He said the government would also educate the public on the formation of the council.

“The awareness to be raised will consider different medium of communication to reach a large population in the country particularly the youth,” he said.
