For the third year running the Athletics Tanzania (AT) has decided to host the national athletics championship at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam in July.
Re-elected AT secretary general Suleiman Nyambui has urged athletes all over the country to prepare for the event.
Nyambui said the event will be held for two days from July 21 and will be used as final preparations for the athletics team heading to the London Games.
Nyambui said AT agreed to host the event in July to give an opportunity to students who will compete at the next month’s UMISETA games.
He said AT will send its representatives to UMISETA games to scout talents for further development.
According to him, AT will nurture young athletes who will be spotted at the UMISETA games.
The UMISETA games are used as a stage that AT and other sports bodies have the opportunity to search for talents.
“The national championship will be held after the UMISETA games. We believe this will give opportunity to regional athletics officials to recruit young runners into their teams,” Nyambui said.
The championship will be the first test for the newly elected AT leadership.
Nyambui defended the decision to host the event at the National Stadium basing on availability of state of the art facilities such as synthetics running track and automatic time recorders.
