UK-based Corinthia Hotels and Just a Drop organisation in collaboration with St Mary's Foundation has handed two boreholes to Tabata-Bima residents in effort to help them access safe water.

The boreholes were handled over to Tabata Bima residents by Corinthia Hotels Board Director Tony Potter on behalf the Founder and Group Chairman of Corinthia Hotels who also doubles as Corporate Patron of the Just a Drop organisation, Alfred Pisani.

“I’m here today to represent Alfred Pisani, who has sponsored a project in Tanzania, as part of its first year of commitment to directly support community driven projects in Africa, including Tanzania to give children the gift of life and good health,” he said.

He said water from the boreholes would be distributed through a 150-metre underground pipe to a water point outside the school campus where end users will draw water from.

Meanwhile, Division Secretary for Ukonga Ward Jeremia Makelele said more water boreholes were needed for the Tabata-Bima Community and surrounding areas. “Water crisis is becoming more serious problem in this area, the residents are struggling to find water, they spent a lot of funds on water,” he said.

“As a government leader, I call on Tabata-Bima residents to maintain this project because these organisations have spent USD 40,000 on it. So, you need to protect it for the future of our children,” said the local government leader.

Makelele also informed that the water project would benefit more than 30,000 people, including 10,000 primary school pupils, expressing hope that it will bring a positive change in the lives of the people in the area.

Local government chairman in the area, Hassan Chabuso, he expressed thanks to Corinthia Hotels and NGOs supporting the project, noting that it has helped the community reduce water crisis. A total of 10 boreholes are needed to supply the Tabata-Bima community with sufficient water and end the problem, he informed.
