ANDy1 basketball team arrive in Dar

United States based ANDY1 Basketball team arrived in Dar es Salaam yesterday for a series of friendlies against domestic sides.

The team is in the country for the second successive visit to spice up the Cocca-Cola’s Sprite Slam event expected to reverbarate in six Mainland Tanzania cities.

Besides spicing up the Sprite Slam, the players will also spend their time in staging basketball clinics for the home players, officials and coaches.

The clinics are beig held as amove towards promotion of the game that has been peaking in the most consistent pattern for the past decade.

Coca Cola company’s public relations manager Evans Mlelwa, said the arrivakl of the ANDY1 team intends to conduct the clinics so as to eaise the standard of the game on gradual basis to produce competent players in the future.

Mlelwa said the clinics will be staged for the third successive year with absolute objective of creating a strong basketball base and its awareness to the public.

The first clinic undergoes in Mwanza tomorrow ahead of others to be conducted insix other regions of Mbeya, Dodoma, Arusha, Kilimanjaro and Dar es Salaam.

"We thprpughly understand the challenges of promoting basketbakll in the country and that’s why we made efforts to improve infrastructure through rehabilitating some of the courts currently in use by home teams’ said Mlelwa.

One of the instructors who is popularly nown for his expertise in 'Street Basketball', Dennis Chism, said he belives players who would turnout for the clinics stand to benefit.

The clinics are open to players of all ages and there is no restriction as the bottom line is to support basketball promotion.

The Tanzania Basketball Federation’s vice- president Phares Magesa expressed his sincere appreciation to the beverage producers firm for efforts to support the game.

He made a call to other corporate firms to emulate the cold drinks produces in promoting basketball game.
