Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) has released qualifying time for swimmers who are expected to feature at international events, including New Delhi’s Commonwealth Games, Africa and World Championships.
TSA secretary general Noel Kiunsi said the International Federation for Swimming Associations (FINA) has set up its qualifying time and advised all its affiliate member counties to abide to the timings.
He said swimmers who are expected to represent the country must meet the set up standards before qualifying for those events.
He unveiled the qualifying time for men and women in 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke as 32, 72 and 150 seconds and 36, 80 and 175 seconds respectively.
Breaststroke timings for men and women in 50 m, 100m and 200m are 33, 78 (seconds) and 2.55 minutes and 39 seconds, 1.27.00, 3.02 minutes respectively.
Butterfly style qualifying time in 50 m for men is 29 seconds while women is 35 seconds, 100m men time is 72 seconds while women time is 80 seconds.
Men and women timings for the 200 m are 2.34 and 2.40minutes.
Freestyle 50m qualifying is 27 and 30 seconds for men and women while the 100m time is 1.04 and 3.02 minutes respectively.
For the 200m freestyle men have 2.15 minutes as women have 2.26 minutes.
Kiunsi said swimmers would be ruled out for the continental and World Championships should they fail to meet the standards, save for the Commonwealth Games.
Besides meeting the set up standards, swimmers must be Tanzanians.
Commonwealth Games will be preceded by the Africa Championships in Morocco and the World Championships are scheduled for the United Arab Emirates in December.
