Coca-Cola hosts football seminar

The Director of Sports in the Ministry for Information, Youth, Culture and Sports Leonard Thadeo said the development of football in the country banks heavily on regional administrators of the game country-wide.

Thadeo made the call during the opening of the football seminar at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

Thadeo believes that football talents are abundant at the grassroots level and the regional officials are at the centre of the production to boost promotion of the game.

The seminar hosted by Coca-Cola Tanzania has brought together all regional football secretaries from Mainland and Zanzibar.

Thadeo told the regional officials that they are responsible to unearth talents that might be a solution to fill the games of ageing players from not only premiership clubs but also the national team as well.

The regional football secretaries have been urged to analyse and find out how best to resolve the prevailing challenges and plan ahead.

"The persistent problem of age cheating has now been minimized almost by 95 percent and we have the responsibility to mould young players into football career”, said Thadeo.

The ministry official said there is no need to entertain cheating of players’ ages as this might terribly back fire to halt the football promotion.

Thadeo said there is a need to be serious in talent scouting and build up an inventory of players capable of performing well in the future.

“Good players are spotted from the grassroots level and then are groomed through the professional approach before developing into stars”, Said Tahdeo.

The technical director of the Tanzania football federation (TFF) Sunday Kayuni said competent players can only be found through featuring in competent leagues.

The TFF’s first vice president Athumani Nyamlani expressed his appreciation to the Coca-Cola form for steadily backing the under 17 tournaments on annual basis right from the district level.

Coca-Cola has been maintaining a sponsorship strangle hold of the under 17 soccer championship in the country over the past five years in a row.
