About six swimming officials stand to win accreditation from the Federation of International Swimming Association (FINA) should they win next week’s sanctioned course of the body.

They might qualify as international referees with permission to officiate tournaments outside the country.

Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA)

secretary general Noel Kiunsi said the opportunities will be up for grabs for all referees who officiated TSA sanctioned tournaments in the past as well as those who will attend next week’s FINA sanctioned referees’ course.

Should the referees qualify they would boost the country’s officiating standards to take assignments on international stage.

“FINA has given us the opportunity to upgrade referees who can officiate international swimming games, this news will help to boost our country reputation in terms of officiating”, said Kiunsi.

In another development Kiunsi said TSA will officially communicate to the Government of its plans to host the Confederation of African Swimming Associations (CANA) zone three and four championships in 2016.

The TSA official also said he has informed the CANA of non availability of 50-meter long pools for the tournament and instead it should host the event using short pools of (25 meters.

Kiunsi is optimistic over securing FINA nod to accept the short pools for the event.

TSA chairman Alex Moshi said his association will hold an extraordinary meeting on Saturday in Dar es Salaam for members to hold an election to fill vacant positions of assistant secretary general, marketing manager who will also double as Fundraising director and executive member duo.

Among other things, Moshi also said the meeting will discuss on ways how to raise funds to host the CANA 2016 event.
