Elizabeth Michael 'Lulu'

The defence advocate Peter Kibatala in the case facing actress Elizabeth Michael, popularly known as Lulu, who is charged with murder over the death of a domestic film star, the late Steven Kanumba, has requested the prosecution to speed up investigation.

Kibatala made the request before Kisutu Resident Magistrate court in Dar es Salaam yesterday after the prosecution led by Principal State Attorney Tumaini Kweka informed the court that the investigation into the case is still in progress.

Resident Magistrate Augustina Mbando, who presides over the case, granted the advocate request and ordered the prosecution to speed up the investigation.

The case was brought back to Kisutu two month ago to proceed with the main suit after an application by Lulu’s counsel Kibatala, who wanted the court to determine the accused person’s actual biological age.

Magistrate Mbando adjourned the case until November 19, this year when it comes up for mention.
According to the charge sheet, the accused is alleged to have committed the offence on April 7 at Sinza Vatican in Kinondoni district.

The accused, who earlier submitted that she was 17 years old and not 18 as per the charge sheet, is still in custody because murder cases are normally dealt with by the High Court.
