Mgambo JKT continued to shrug off the underdog tag after winning their left over premiership match against Tanzania Prisons by a lone goal played at the Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga yesterday.

It was Sunday Magodi’ whose first half goal separated the two sides during a midweek fixture to conclude some of the left over matches in the Mainland premiership which would attain half way stage.

The newly promoted side has leapfrogged to the seventh position in the standings table with 17 points after winning five matches, drawing twice and losing the rest in thirteen appearances.

It has been a remarkable performance by the team that lost their first five opening rounds matches to dominate the standings base.

The Tanga team has almost forgotten relegation worries as it now focuses on how best to remain in the premiership fleet if not to fight for title chase.

Prisons team is yet to recover from the shock of road accident that caused postponement of their two matches last month.

The Mbeya side now has a match against Ruvu Shooting at the Mabatini venue in Coast region this weekend to wind up the first half of the season.

Prisons are still stumbling at the eleventh spot with 13 points in 12 games to gaze the relegation borderline on a narrow cushion of one point.

While Prisons used to feature in the premiership twice before, rookie Mgambo are making their debut appearance.

Mgambo and Prisons won promotion into the top flight berth in the same batch with relegation-haunted Police Morogoro when the intermediate league was staged in Morogoro in April.
