Tussle for the ball between Serengeti Boys player Selemani Bofu (L) abd a Congo Brazzavile player at the National Stadium in Dar es salaam yesterday.

Serengeti Boys as the Tanzania under 17 football team is known posted a narrow one goal victory over visiting Congo Brazzaville in the first leg of the African Nations Cup qualifier match played at the National Stadium in Dare s Salaam yesterday.

The host team’s goal was scored by Mudadhir Abbas through a dead ball just outside the box after 15 minutes. The goal resulted from a foul committed by a Congolese defender against Tanzanian Selemani Bofu.

The result lasted to the end of the game as both teams misfired in search of goals

The Tanzanian team failed to utilise a home ground advantage and the massively built Congolese players looked dominant particularly on aerial balls.

The return leg will be played in Brazzaville in two weeks time and the eventual aggregate winner would cruise into the finals set for Marrakech in Morocco early next year.
The victory for Tanzanians is useful but not enough to give them an edge at a foreign soil.

The match was attended by spectators who failed to fill up the stands.

Serengeti Boys assistant coach Jamhuri Kihwelo complained that his boys played against overage team but he would not substantiate his claims.

The Serengeti Boys were against a tall order as the visitors players looked massively built to create a doubt over their real age.
