Burundi handed Somalia a 5-1 goal demolition to Somalia in the group B opening match played at the Nelson Mandela Stadium here yesterday.
Chris Nduwarugara and Yusuf Ndikumana each scored a brace while Suleiman Ndikumana scored one to conclude the rout.
Mohamed Andri scored the consolation goal through a penalty midway into the second half.
Somalia will meet Mainland Tanzania in their next game later this week as the ‘exilees’ would need nothing short of victory to revive progression hopes.

John Bocco opened the score after 14 minutes for the Mainland team when he tapped in a through pass by Mrisho Ngasa who picked up Mwinyi Kazimoto’s pass earlier in the build up.
Bocco was on target again after 28 minutes when he also concluded Ngassa’s through pass .
