Burundi hit 5 past Somalia

Burundi handed Somalia a 5-1 goal demolition to Somalia in the group B opening match played at the Nelson Mandela Stadium here yesterday.

Chris Nduwarugara and Yusuf Ndikumana each scored a brace while Suleiman Ndikumana scored one to conclude the rout.

Mohamed Andri scored the consolation goal through a penalty midway into the second half.

Somalia will meet Mainland Tanzania in their next game later this week as the ‘exilees’ would need nothing short of victory to revive progression hopes.

Mainland Tanzania were playing their opening game of the Challenge Cup tournament against Sudan later yesterday evening.

John Bocco opened the score after 14 minutes for the Mainland team when he tapped in a through pass by Mrisho Ngasa who picked up Mwinyi Kazimoto’s pass earlier in the build up.

Bocco was on target again after 28 minutes when he also concluded Ngassa’s through pass .

The starting line-ups for the teams were: Mainland: Juma Kaseja, Erasto Nyoni,Amri Maftah, Shomari Kapombe, Kelvin Yondani, Frank Domayo, Mrisho Ngasa, Salum Aboubakar, John Bocco, Mwinyi Kazimoto and Simon Msuva.


Maowla el Amin, Sami Abdallah, Farid Abdallah, Hamodsa Bashir, Mohamed el Mortada, Abdelrahman Ali, Sadam Abdultalib, Mudadhir Mohamed, Mohamed Idris, Adam Sayer and Mohamed Osman.
