The Government has praised telecommunication companies in the country for being the leader in youth jobs creation.
Kinondoni District Commissioner Jordan Rugimbana said more people in the country, particularly youths have secured employment in the telecommunication sector.
The District Commissioner asked the companies to find ways of creating more jobs for the youths many of whom are unemployed at the moment.
Rugimbana was speaking yesterday at the opening of a new Vodacom customer care shop at Oysterbay in Dar es Salaam.
“The city of Dar es Salaam is fast growing and there is a need to increase telecommunications services so that people can communicate easily; the good thing for increasing the services in the region is that they will also avail job opportunities to more people who go unemployed,” he said.
He also thanked Vodacom Tanzania Limited for its foundation which he said is committed to support the communities in health, education and social welfare.
In his remarks, Vodacom Tanzania Limited managing director Rene Meza said the firm is committed to improve the lives of Tanzanians.
He said it is optimistic that the new shop will address the needs of the company’s customers in the city
“We are excited to open this shop for we have created employment with new staff. So far Vodacom has given employment to over 500 individuals directly and over 30,000 people indirectly,” said Meza.
