Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner Leonidas Gama said the Government would continue to support the annual Marathon staged in Moshi every year.
He said the event serves as an athletics promotion as well as tourist attraction.
Gama’s remarks have also been echoed by Moshi District Commissioner Ibrahim Msengi.
Msengi was speaking this during the launch of the Marathon expected to be held in February next year.
"The Marathon is one of the important events in our country's sports calendar and attracts many participants from both inside and outside the country," he said.
The DC also challenged Tanzanian participants and the country’s athletic leaders to make sure they prepare a team which can win the event.
He recommended those sponsors for supporting the event; something which he said made the event sustainable.
Tanzania Breweries, who are behind the sponsorship, have introduced an extra prize of 3m/- for Tanzanian athletes who will finish first in both men and women categories of the event.
"This will encourage our athletes to work hard and ensure they win the event next year and to prove this, they have already opened a training camp at Holili," said the brewers official, George Kavishe.
He said his firm would continue to support the event which he claimed continues to grow and has proven to be a mark of respect for the Kilimanjaro region.
He said the event has played a big role in promoting Africa’s highest peak internationally.
Kavishe also thanked the co-sponsors for their continued support towards the event.
