Three local swimmers will leave the country today for Turkey to compete at the World Championship that gets underway from Wednesday to Sunday at Sinam Erdem Arena, Istanbul.
The Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) secretary general, Noel Kiunsi, said yesterday the country will be represented by three swimmers and a coach.
The swimmers who are expected to travel are Hilal Hilal, Ammaar Ghadiyali and Mariam Foum. Coach Marcelino Ngalioma will lead the delegation.
The TSA official said the association expects that the three will do the country proud in the competition as they are young, dedicated and hardworking.
“We are hopeful that the swimmers will perform well at the championship. We wanted to send three other swimmers but we failed to raise 6m/- for their trip,” he said.
He said due to lack of funds TSA could not organize camp for the athletes, only undergoing individual training at their respective clubs.
The championship is held once in two years, and Tanzania performed badly at the 2010 event held in Dubai.
