A Total of 70 small and medium entrepreneurs (SME) have received the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) certification from 2004 to 2007, according to the Bureau’s officer.
Speaking here at the closing ceremony of the 10th SME exhibitions TBS Communications Officer Roida Andusumile called on the certified entrepreneurs to become TBS’ good ambassadors and encourage others to apply for the certification.
She said many small and medium entrepreneurs fail to qualify for the certification due to lack of conducive and hygienic environment to conduct their businesses.
Andusumile said most entrepreneurs dealing with food processing operate in backyard kitchens and without proper utensils hence compromising quality of their products.
She called on entrepreneurs to abide by TBS’ directives on producing quality products for them to qualify for certification. She added that TBS certification is provided free of charge; calling on many entrepreneurs to apply for it.
Closing the exhibition, Mwanza Regional Commissioner Evarist Ndikilo appealed to councils to allocate plots to entrepreneurs to enable them run their businesses and produce quality products.
He called on Tanzanians to go for locally made goods produced by small and medium entrepreneurs so as to boost the country’s economy.
