The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has named Kenyan referees to officiate the international friendly match between the national soccer team, Taifa Stars and the African champions Zambia, Chipolopolo on Saturday next week at the National Stadium, in Dar es Salaam.
TFF Information Officer Boniface Wambura said yesterday that Sylvester Kirwa will be centre referee assisted by Elias Wamalwa and Marwa Range. The trio are on the International Football Federation (FIFA) referees list.
Wambura noted the decision to appoint Kenya officials was based on the fact that TFF had entered into agreement with its neighbors in relation to cooperation in football activities including exchange of referees especially in international games.
Thus the coming high profile match of Taifa Stars and champions Zambia is an opportunity to seek such cooperative handling of the match, he said.
The Taifa Stars squad is camping at Tansoma Hotel and training at the Karume ground and at the National Stadium in preparation for the Chipolopolo tie.
This match will be the first Tanzanian friendly international game to be officiated by foreign referees.
In the implementation of agreement between TFF and the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), Tanzanian referees Oden Mbaga assisted by John Kanyenye and Erasmo Jesse officiated an international friendly between Kenya’s Harambee Stars and the South African side Bafana Bafana in October at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi, where the visitors won 2-1.
Meanwhile, Simba Sports Club yesterday announced the release of their players to join the Taifa Stars squad training camp as their new French coach, Patrick Lieweg is scheduled to arrive after Christmas.
Simba information officer Ezekiel Kamwaga said that due to the late arrival of the coach there was no reason to retain players since there will be no training sessions. Simba had earlier decided that its players would join the national team on December 20 and urged TFF to adhere to international regulations governing the releasing of players.
The regulations restricts the period of players release to 48 hours prior to a friendly match
Players released are captain Juma Kaseja, Shomari Kapombe, Nassor Masoud ‘Cholo’, Mrisho Ngasa, Amri Kiemba and Mwinyi Kazimoto.
