Arusha Gymkhana Club’s amateur Jimmy Mollel yesterday returned one over totals 145 to win the annual Tanzania Golf Union’s Chairman’s Trophy played at his home course.
Mollel trailed three shots adrift of overnight leader who happened to be his blood brother Nuru before charging to the title podium yesterday.
His two under par 70 shoved Nuru out of contention after he staggered to five over par 77 to run out of steam.
Jimmy Mollel who had a wobbly season has stabilized with the end of the season victory in a tournament that also saw women featuring as invitees.
With scores of 74 and 75 Madina Idd topped the ladies section to stay third overall at the end of the tournament.
Over 60 golfers turned out during the tournament that herald’s end of the season.
Meanwhile former Tanzania Golf Union’s chairman Hussein Omari is making a steady progress after head surgery last week in Dar es Salaam.
Omari who is in Dar e s Salaam said he is recovering well after a good job by the Muhimbili National Hospital’s surgeon.
Omari was found with clot inside his head and the surgery was successfully held last week.
The former TGU boss is based in Bukoba where he is spending his post retirement life on the shores of Lake Victoria. ends
