Stars relish victory

8th February 2013
Taifa Stars are relishing a lone goal victory over visiting Cameroon during a friendly international played at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday.

The match was one of the midweek fixture sanctioned by FIFA all over the world and will be used to rank teams globally.

Tanzania is likely to gain more points and ascend on the rankings ladder after the giant kill.

Besides the ranking advantage, the country has also boosted hopes and gained confidence ahead of meeting Morocco mid next month for the first leg tie of the 2014 World cup qualifiers.

Though it was a mere friendly, but the boys have underlined their adamancy of not letting home fans having kept home record against Cameroon intact.

It was the third meet of the teams in their football history after the twice meeting during the 2007 African Nations Cup qualifiers where Stars held Cameroon to a barren draw and went onto lose 2-1 in Yaoundé a week later.

The victory has given morale booster to not only the players and fans but also Danish coach Kim Poulsen.

Stars still in triple figure rankings for years now are likely to move into respectable positions on global standings and Cameroon are left to rue for fielding experimental side.

A last-gasp goal by Mbwana Samata completely overwhelmed Cameroon who earlier in the opening half survived a missed penalty.
