NSSF to host international social security meeting

The state-owned National Social Security Fund (NSSF) will host a five-day international conference on social security for Anglophone countries, starting next Monday.
NSSF Customer & Services Chief Manager Aboubakar Maaguo told journalists in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the conference would be held at Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) in Arusha Region.
Maaguo added that the Minister of Labour, Youth Development and Sports, Professor, Juma Kapuya, would officially open the five days conference.
Main themes of the conference would include an improvement of pension benefits, health services, short-term benefits and investments, according to Maaguo.
On his part, a representative from the International Social Security Association (ISSA) in Geneva, Switzerland, Theopiste Butare, said during the next week’s conference, over 80 participants would deliberate on statistical data collection with the aim of establishing a database for developing countries.
“Participants will become skilled and exchange views on actual practice with its guidelines and risk management, pensions, health care, investment of social security funds together with short-term benefits,” Maaguo said.
Maaguo went on to say that the next week’s conference has been confirmed by the ISSA Secretary General, Dalmer Hopkins, in Geneva, Switzerland.
Established in 1927, ISSA has been protecting, promoting and developing social security throughout the world, according to Maaguo.
Participants of the next week’s conference would include social security experts from Jordan, Indonesia, China, Sudan, Zambia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Thailand, Philipine, Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Swaziland.
Other participants would come from Switzerland and the United Kingdom (UK), Maaguo said.
After the conference, all participants are expected to have a tour to Ngorongoro National Park, he added.
