US invests 460m/- in two water projects

The US government has provided 460m/- to finance two major water projects in Kilimanjaro and Manyara regions.
According to a press statement issued by the US embassy Charge d’Affaires Michael Owen in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the Kilimanjaro project was inaugurated this week, while the one in Manyara region is said to be nearing completion.
On Tuesday this week, Owen inaugurated Same Town water supply project and on Thursday, he visited Lengasti village water supply project in Simanjiro district.
The US government, through the Department of Defence, Humanitarian Assistance Programme, funded both projects the statement said.
The statement said the Same Town project, a 160m/- water supply project, would serve over 20,000 people while the 300m/- Lengasti water project will serve 6,000 people when completed.
The money provided by the embassy was used to buy pumps, pipes, and storage tanks and to dig boreholes in what is billed as two of the embassy’s major water projects in Tanzania.
The Same Town water project assures the 20,000 residents of adequate water supply from a number of boreholes that are backed by storage tanks and pipes.
The Lengasti water project will save women and children from a daily 24-kilometre walk in search of water.
It will improve agricultural production, alleviate poverty and improve health.
Maji-Tech implemented the Same Town water project in which World Vision Tanzania is a partner.
At the Same Town water supply project ceremony, local District Commissioner Mkude and Same West-legislator John Singo represented the government.
Manyara Regional Commissioner Anatory Tarimo, Simanjiro District Commissioner Shulutete, Simanjiro District legislator Parseko ole Kone and village chairman Maningo Kutatoi attended the Lengasti ceremony.
