Knowledge is power which can be obtained through reading books, a company director said yesterday.

Comprint International Managing Director Ismail Sadiq said in an interview at the 29th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) that publishers were ready to churn out quality books but the public should be prepared to read them.

’You can’t attain knowledge without reading books. And the powerhouse of getting these books is the publishing industry,’ he said.

The co-director of the company, Rehema Ismail said that the government should reduce paper tax to empower local printers.

Banks should provide soft loans with reasonable interest rates, she said.

She criticized the growing tendency of adoring foreign products, saying Tanzanians should nurture a culture of promoting locally manufactured goods.

The only way to acquire knowledge is through reading, she said.
