Lorry crash victims identified

All eight people who died in a lorry accident in Lushoto District earlier this week have been identified.
The bodies were identified by the victims relatives, Tanga Regional Police Commander Faith Amour said yesterday.
She named the dead as 30-year-old Saidi Jumanne, Amina Zanieli, 45, Mariam Athumani, 44, Tatu Selemani, 46, Farida Mussa, 28, Batuli Kajilu, 29, Ramadhani Hamdani, 16, and Zaina Haji, 17, who are all residents of Lushoto District.
Amour said police were looking for the driver of the lorry, Juma Abdallah, who fled after Tuesday’s accident.
She added that most of the 41 people injured in the accident had been discharged from Bombo and Lushoto hospitals.
The accident took place near Mlalo Village and involved a lorry carrying more than 50 people which overturned after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
In Dar es Salaam, two people died in separate incidents on Wednesday.
They include an unidentified man who was hit and killed by a car at Magomeni Kagera, according to the regional police chief, Alfred Tibaigana.
The second victim was a woman who was found dead at the home she shared with her lover.
Tibaigana said the woman was identified only as Chacha and was found dead in her room at Tabata Dampo.
