Eight Tanzanian children have arrived home from India where they underwent successful heart surgery.
The children arrived in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday afternoon and were met at the airport by scores of relatives.
The co-ordinator of their trip to India, Dr Rajni Kanabar of Lions Club of Dar es Salaam (Host), said the patients were making good progress after they were operated on at Narayana Hrudayalaya Heart Institute.
He said the eight patients, who returned on Wednesday, were among 20 Tanzanian children who travelled to India for heart surgery last month.

The group travelled to India as part of Lions Club’s Millennium Heart Surgery Project which aims to sponsor the treatment of 100 children with heart problems.
Forty children have already had heart surgery in India under the project, Dr Kanabar said.

Local sponsors include Said Salim Bakhresa who donated 5m/- and Rombo District Trust Fund, Mwanza Textiles Mills, Serengeti Breweries and Quality Group which donated 10m/- each.
Other benefactors supporting the project include Mohammad Punjani of MP Charitable Foundation Trust in Toronto, Canada, who has sponsored 10 children at a cost of US$16,500, Dr Riyaz Hassan Ali, President of International Medical Relief Foundation of New York, who has donated US$16,000, and Dr Kiran Patel and his wife who have donated US$49,500.
