Varsity hosts three day Tuseme festival

Twenty five secondary school cultural groups will today feature in 7th Tuseme festival at the Nkrumah Hall of the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM).

Flowin Komba, the head of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at UDSM said that the groups represent all of Tanzania Mainland regions.

The groups come from Iringa, Msalato, Korogwe, Rugambwa, Masasi, Mpanda, Bwiru, Kilakala, Loleza, Kondoa, Tanga, Tabora, Maswa, Zanaki, Kibondo and Machame.

Other groups to feature in today’s festival scheduled to end on Wednesday are Arusha, Mwenge, Ruvu, Bagamoyo, Lufilyo, Lindi, Mara, Songea and Mgugu.

Tuseme festival is open to the public and it tries to empower the youth and especially girls to do better in school and socially.

He said that this year’s theme is Najiamini na Ninaweza.

This year’s festival marks the end of project era and paves the way to a mainstreaming era where festival activities would be taken over by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

The groups will also attend a workshop on life skills and tour some faculties of UDSM and the University College of Lands and Architectural Studies (UCLAS).

The event has been mainly sponsored by the Embassy of Sweden in Dar es Salaam through its Development Co-operation Division (SIDA) and UDSM.
