Arusha win athletics title

Arusha Region on Saturday emerged the overall winners of the 44th national athletics championship held at Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium.
The region scored 264 points to beat former champions Zanzibar which finished second with 250.
Dar es Salaam finished third on 117 points followed by Dodoma with 30 points as Tabora scooped 21 points to finish fifth.
Other regions and their positions and points in brackets are Kilimanjaro (6th, 19), Manyara (7th, 17), Morogoro (8th, 15), Singida (9th, 12), Mwanza (10th, 7), Mara (11th, 2) and Pwani (12th, 2). Tanga and Ruvuma finished last with no points.
In Men’s category, Arusha finished top on 194 points while Dar es Salaam scooped 132 points to become second.
In women category, Zanzibar emerged top with 118 points while Arusha and Dar es Salaam finished second and third respectively.
Arusha scored 70 points while Dar es Salaam had 65 points.
No prizes were given to winners.
