By Nsuduki Limbe, PST, Tabora

Third World countries like Tanzania are in jeopardy of turning into ’’fourth world’’ nations unless they fully embrace advancement of science and technology, according to Tabora Regional Education Officer, Midamo Makungu.

He said Third World countries must prepare the youth to face the advancement of Science and Technology or else they would get down deeper in the mire of underdevelopment.

Makungu was closing a 3-week in-service course for secondary school science and mathematics teachers in the Western Zone.

He lamented there were too many people who still believed and practised witchcraft instead of applied sciences.
’’Witchcraft will not benefit Tanzania,’’ he said.

Development of any society lies in science and technology and youth must face the challenge, he said.
Makungu said Tanzania is faced with problems of teaching science subjects.

’’This is inevitable with the mushrooming community secondary schools which don’t have laboratories or even proper teaching equipment,’’ he said.
