CCM Union presidential candidate Jakaya Kikwete promised party elders yesterday he would not let them down if elected president.
Kikwete made the promise at a meeting in Dar es Salaam with CCM party elders, where he sought their blessings ahead of October polls.
When I was seeking nomination, speculations were rife . Some people said if I would be elected, I would not pay attention to the elders .
Let me promise you now that I wont let you down. Without your blessings, I cannot steer this country to prosperity , said Kikwete.
He reminded them that throughout his life, he had valued their leadership and wisdom.
When I was a little boy, I was cared by my grand father.
He taught me a lot of things that have guided me, he said, adding that in his political career too he had been keen on the contributions made by the late Sabith Kombo and Mwalimu Julius Nyerere.
Both of them were my inspiration. With you on my side, victory is certain and we ll lead our nation together, said Kikwete
Earlier, reading a speech on behalf of Dar es Salaam CCM elders, the Secretary, Mohamed Mtulia, said Kikwete was their choice.
We are happy to have you as a loving and faithful leader. We assure you that we shall win the elections said Mtulia.
