The Ministry of Health, International Lions Club and Lions Club of Tanzania yesterday agreed at a meeting in Dar es Salaam to put up a modern Heart Institute.

The founder of Foundation for Global Understanding based in USA, Dr. Kiran Patel and the Director for Regency Medical Centre Dr. Rajni Kanabar (representing Lions Clubs) and the Minister for Health Anna Abdallah attended the meeting and agreed on the important highlights to be included in the project.

The Health Minister said the country needed such facility in order to minimize the cost of sending heart patients abroad.

’There are many people who are dying of heart and other related diseases. If we get such a centre it will help us to solve this problem. It is the government’s belief that by creating the heart centre we will be helping both the rich and the poor to get treatment affordably,’ said the minister.

She said that in order to ensure that the project takes off without delay the meeting agreed to form a committee, which will make the project write-up within 60 days from yesterday.

’In sixty days time I will still be the health minister. I direct the committee to accomplish this task within the period. I will give the report to my Permanent Secretary who will hand it over to the next minister for implementation,’ she said.
