The Executive Committee of Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) met yesterday to propose names of presidential aspirants ahead of party’s congress which starts today.

The congress will pick one aspirant from among the candidates who will carry the party’s flag in the October 30 elections.

Talking to reporters in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the party’s Secretary General, Dr Wilbroad Slaa said the congress would also approve the name of the running mate.

Three Chadema members — Freeman Mbowe, Maulida Abubakari and Chiku Abwao — are vying for the party’s endorsement as presidential candidates.

Three other aspirants were removed from the list for various reasons, which Dr Slaa could not name.

These are Mambo Shabani Mambo, Hebron Mwakagenda and Pascal Kibade.

Dr Slaa said names for presidential contestant and his/her running mate will be revealed soon after the congress.
