By Ludger Kasumuni, Dodoma

CCM’s Central Committee has nullified nomination results for Kilolo constituency.

A press statement issued yesterday by the party’s ideology and publicity secretary, Omar Ramadhan Mapuri, said the CC-secretariat had ordered the Kilolo nomination be repeated on August 17.

According to the statement, the party\’s CC made the decision following evidence that there were irregularities in the counting.

The winner of the controversial nomination was Venance Mwamoto, who beat the vice-chancellor of Sokoine University, Prof Peter Msolla, by two votes.

The statement said that all contestants who took part in the nomination would be allowed to enter the race again.

It added that senior officials from the head office would supervise the exercise.

The decision to cancel CCM’s nomination results in Kilolo was made on Saturday at a CC session chaired by President Benjamin Mkapa.

Contacted yesterday, Prof Msolla said there were irregularities during nomination in Kilolo.

Speaking by telephone, Prof Msolla said five people took part in the nomination.

He said irregularities forced the returning officer, Yoel Gaifaro, to conduct the polls twice.

He said in the first round Mwamoto got 329 votes against Msolla’s 327.

He said that during the second round of nomination, only two contestants – Msolla who polled 327 votes and his rival, Mwamoto who got 329 – took part.
