Ten Tanzanian children who went to India recently for heart surgery are reportedly doing well.

The co-ordinator of the Lions Club Dar es Salaam (Host) Heart Programme, Dr Rajni Kanabar, said in the city that the patients were expected back home in a few days’ time.

”The children are doing well after surgery and are currently being monitored. They will return home soon,” he said.

Dr Kanabar said the four adults who also went for heart surgery in India were also making good progress after undergoing successful operations at Narayana Hrudayalaya Heart Institute.

The children’s treatment was funded by the Director of Global Foundation for Understanding, Dr Kiran Patel.

Dr Kanabar said the children travelled to India under the Millenium Heart Project run by the Lions Club Dar es Salaam (Host).

About 100 children with heart problems are expected to travel to India for surgery under the project.
