By Geoffrey Kimbunga, SAUT

United Democratic Party (UDP) presidential aspirant John Cheyo has withdrawn from the race and says will now run for Parliament.

Addressing a news conference at the party’s headquarters in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Cheyo said UDP would join forces with other opposition parties in the bid for presidency.

’’UDP will join our fellows in the opposition to remove the current government,’’ he said.
Cheyo then announced that he would vie for Parliament in Bariadi East, Shinyanga Region.

’’I will go to Shinyanga Region on August 17, to take nomination forms for Bariadi East,’’ he said.On why he had opted for Parliament, Cheyo said, the House needed good decision makers . The ’rot in the government had to be removed by right decisions, he said.

UDP has 60 candidates contesting for parliament in the coming general election.

Cheyo took part in the first multi party elections in 1995 where he emerged fourth after President Benjamin Mkapa, Augustine Mrema and Prof Ibrahim Lipumba.
