The government has been advised to create an environment that would allow various groups in the society to have equal representation in the Parliament.
Tanzania Gender Networking Programme (TGNP) senior officer Gemma Akilimali said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that for many years groups that play an important role in the society had been left out of parliament as a result of the shortcomings in the constitution.
She said discrepancies in the countrys Constitution were to blame for inadequate representation in the House.
Akilimali, who spoke on behalf of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the country, noted:
There are no seats for interest groups in the society to allow these people participate in politics without being members of a party.
There is no representation in parliament for academics, the youth, the disabled and other special groups, she added.
She said that the single seat set aside for CCM womens wing (UWT) does not cover the interests of NGOs.
