The Tanzania Gender Networking Programme (TGNP) plans to organise its 7th gender festival that would provide room for specialists, experts and ordinary people to deliberate crucial development issues.
In an interview, TNGP Executive Director Mary Rusimbi said intensive discussions and debates would be conducted during the festival that would run from September 6 up to 9, in Dar es Salaam.
She said the festival is expected to draw experts and actors in gender, democracy and development to share experiences and ideas on various development initiatives in a broader context.
The experts will take stock of achievements, constraints and foster joint action plans to improve gender, democracy and development in the country, said Rusimbi in a statement issued in Dar es Salaam.
She said individuals and groups from different parts of the country would have the opportunity to share their work outputs, sharpen their skills and capacities.
The festival will serve as a platform for the respective groups including civil societies and community-based organisations to network and establish further linkages with other actors at different levels.
The four-day event will feature, among other things, workshops, plenary sessions and exhibitions of various products, according to the director.
Rusimbi added: This festival provides a forum to analyse alternative approaches to development, share experiences with other participants, and participate in building a collective and consolidate agenda for change.
She said the move focuses on enhancing participants capacity at the district and regional and national level to organize and demand transformative approaches to governance, and making decision on policies and resource allocation.
The idea here is to promote gender equity and social transformation at all levels, said the TGNP boss.
This years festival overall theme is Gender, Democracy and Development while specific theme for 2005 is Popular Struggles For An Alternative and Better World.
