Chief Sheikh appoints new Bakwata leaders

The Chief Sheikh, Mufti Issa Shaaban Simba, has appointed several officials to top positions in the National Muslim Council of Tanzania (Bakwata).
They include Sheikh Abubakar Zubeir who has been appointed Deputy Chief Sheikh, Bakwata said in a statement made available to The Guardian yesterday.
Alhaj Habib Ndassiwa is the new chairman of the Bakwata National Executive Council while Sheikh Salum Hassan Fereji and Sheikh Abdallah Yusuf have been appointed to the Scholars Council.
Bakwata said in its statement that other members of the Scholars Council retain their positions. They are Sheikh Masoud Jongo, Sheikh Mohamed Mkanga, Sheikh Suleiman Gorogosi, Sheikh Tawfiq Malilo and Sheikh Ahmed Zubeir.
Others are Sheikh Suleiman Kilemile, Sheikh Shariff Hussein Hashim and Sheikh Abubakar Zubeir.
New members of the National Executive Council are Dr Ahmed Twaha, Sheikh Shariff Idrissa Omar, Ustaadh Aziz Aboud, Ustaadh Khamis Mataka and Alhaj Adam Kimbisa.
Meanwhile, the Chief Sheikh has revoked the appointment of Sheikh Ali Mubarak as chairman of the National Executive Council.
The Bakwata statement said the appointments followed amendments made to the councils constitution in Dodoma last month.
