CCM won’t steal election, says Shein

By Correspondent Idda Mushi, Morogoro

CCM does not have to ’’steal’’ next month’s general election to register a landslide win, according to the party’s Union running mate, Dr Ali Mohamed Shein.

He told CCM elders in Morogoro on Thursday that the party enjoyed popular support all over the country and was confident of forming the next government.

’’CCM has done a lot and Tanzanians are aware of this fact. The party does not have to steal the elections. In fact, CCM will win without stealing any vote,’’ Dr Shein said.

He added that Tanzanians should be wary of people making such claims because they were the ones who were planning to violate electoral rules with impunity during the October 30 elections.

’’All those who claim that CCM will steal the elections are the ones who are planning to steal votes…they are trying to hoodwink Tanzanians into believing that CCM will use underhand tactics.’’

Dr Shein said it was absurd for the opposition to sneer at CCM’s ”remarkable” record, adding that opposition parties were far behind as far as experience and achievements were concerned.

Speaking at the meeting earlier, Morogoro Regional Commissioner Stephen Mashishanga called on CCM members to put aside differences over last month’s parliamentary and civic nominations to make the party stronger ahead of the elections.

’’It time that we put our differences aside and work together to ensure that our party wins by a landslide next month,’’ he said.
