Former President Alhaj Ali Hassan Mwinyi has urged further research towards eradication of cancer.

Mwinyi gave the challenge after he led the eighth Terry Fox Run at Msasani Slip Way in Dar es Salaam yesterday. More than 16m/- was raised.

He said that there was a profound need to conduct research whose findings could enable medics to save lives of people, by dispensing proper treatment.

’’There is need for more research and more knowledge for our doctors and health workers to be able to deal with the disease more efficiently,’’ said Mwinyi.

Canadian High Commissioner to Tanzania Dr Andrew McAlister who participated in the run, said that the Terry Fox Run was an annual event whose primary objective was to raise money for research in cancer.

Dr McAlister thanked the companies for contributions and sponsorship of the Terry Fox Run which he described as successful.

Speaking at the end of the Terry Fox Run event, the organizing committee Chairman, Leonard Mususa, said that researches were vital as to save the lives of both advantaged and disadvantaged persons.

Mususa was of the view that it was only research with successful findings that could remove the ”death penalty’’ to cancer victims.
