By Mwinyi Sadallah, Zanzibar

Civic United Front’s Isles presidential flagbearer Seif Shariff Hamad wants party supporters to be ready to accept the outcome of next month’s general election.

Hamad made the remarks when he addressed a large crowd at a campaign rally at Paje, South Unguja.

He said that as soon as the electoral commission announced the polls outcome, members would be obliged to respect the results.

’I call upon you to accept the election results and avoid any acts of violence,’ Hamad said.

Hamad said CCM had failed to unite the people of Zanzibar and that is why the country is in a political crisis.

Hamad said, ’In Zanzibar, there are people who feel that they deserve more privileges than others.’

He said that, because of CCM’s wrong policies, Zanzibar was dependent on agricultural goods from the Mainland – including rice, despite having fertile valleys.

He said CUF would establish farmers’ associations and make loans available to farmers.

He said he would also give more emphasis in education, adding that despite the increase in the number of classrooms, education on the Isles was still sub-standard.

’CUF will also build fruit canning factories to improve agriculture,’he said amid applause.

Both CCM and CUF have returned to Unguja after their campaigns in Pemba.
