Two people appeared before a Dar es Salaam court yesterday charged with armed robbery.

Dotto Adabu and Paulo James were brought before the Ilala District Court where the charge was read out to them before presiding magistrate Hamisa Kalombola.

The prosecutor, Inspector Madaraka Majiga, earlier told the court that the accused committed the alleged offence at Kimara Kilungule on September 5, this year.

He alleged that the pair robbed Charles Kitelele of 200,000/- in cash, a pistol, mobile phone and various other valuables, all valued at 3,340,000/-.

The accused allegedly threatened their victim with an axe before robbing him.

’They held an axe over his head and threatened to kill him if he resisted or raised the alarm,’ Majiga told the court.
The accused denied the charge and were remanded in custody until Monday when the case will come up for another mention.

Meanwhile, Yusuf Salum, 21, was arraigned before the same court on a charge of theft.

It was alleged before trial magistrate Stahimili Ngwawasya that the accused stole from Peter Mpogole various items valued at 1.1m/- at Magomeni Kagera on September 11, this year.

The items included 80,000/- in cash, a mobile phone valued at 165,000/-, radio cassette worth 110,000/-, washing machine valued at 200,000/-, radio speaker and five motor vehicle tyres.

He denied the charge, but was remanded after failing to meet bail conditions. The case will be mentioned again on October 10.

Meanwhile, the murder case facing five people who allegedly set a house on fire at Manzese, Dar es Salaam, killing five people, has been adjourned to October 14.

The case was postponed at the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court after the prosecutor, Patrick Byatao, informed the presiding magistrate that investigations were still going on.

The accused are Rashid Ali, 44; Juma Rajab, 29; Hassan Kassim, 37; Kassim Salum, 55, and Juma Hamisi, 31.

They allegedly murdered Mwajuma Nyanza, Mwajuma Rashid, Sambali Lusiani, David John and Asha Rashid after setting the house they were sleeping in on fire at Manzese Midizini on the night of September 9, this year.
