Chadema presidential candidate Freeman Mbowe has dismissed Jakaya Kikwetes new vigour, new pace and new beginning slogan as meaningless as it cannot hoist most Tanzanians out of the abject poverty trap.
Speaking at different campaign rallies, Mbowe who flew to Kigoma on Sunday in a hired helicopter, said the slogan would in fact perpetuate poverty among Tanzanians.
Mbowe held campaign rallies in Nyakuga, Nyakanazi, Biharamulo town, Kagera, Kibondo, Kasulu, Kalinzi, Mnanila and Kakonko.
He also addressed rallies in Ilagala, Nguruka, Uvinza, Kazuramimba, Kagunga, Mwamgongo and Kigoma south constituency.
He said that CCM candidates campaign slogan would not change anything because Kikwete is incapable of injecting fresh ideas into the economy.
He said that Kikwete would retain all the policies by outgoing President Benjamin Mkapa, which had failed to smash poverty among the majority of Tanzanians.
Mbowe said Mkapas government did not leave room for other people to generate wealth.
He said CCM exploits wananchi through heavy taxation.
In every transaction you make everyday – when you buy sugar, kerosene, meat, soda, beer or bus fare – you pay huge amounts of taxes, he said.
Meanwhile, the Chadema director for information and publicity, Msafiri Mtemelwa, said that a statement issued by the Minister for Works, John Magufuli, against the use of helicopters, was motivated by jealousy.
