Recently, Athletics Tanzania (AT) president, Elias Sulus declared his body would hold poll as scheduled next Thursday, and there would be no turning back.

This was at the backdrop of some officials of the top sports organization maintaining the election should take place today.

Some officials even said the October 13 polls date was Sulus’ personal decision and not the resolve of AT executive committee.

According to the AT Secretary General Juma Ikangaa, AT should abide by the directive by National Sports Council (NSC) to conduct the polls today.

It is noteworthy, the incumbent president isn’t eligible for re-election in the polls expected to take place in Morogoro.

There are reports International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF), the world body for athletics has indicated it wants the polls held soonest.

We feel that there should be no more postponement of the poll date. AT officials must end the tussle over the polls date and let sanity reign for athletics posterity.

According to Filbert Bayi, the secretary general of the Tanzania Olympic Committee the polls should bring about ’leaders in love with the sport.’

We also call for people seeking such office to be of high integrity and good managers. Otherwise it is mismanagement that has been killing our sports.
