Hundreds console Mengi family

Friends and relatives poured into the house of the Executive Chairman of IPP Limited, Reginald Mengi, in Dar es Salaam yesterday to console his family following the death of his son, Rodney Mutie Mengi.

Mutie, who until his death was the Managing Director of the East Africa Television and Radio, died in Dar es Salaam on Thursday afternoon.

Mourners, who started streaming into Mengi’s Masaki residence from morning included cabinet ministers, ambassadors and fellow businessmen.

Some of the VIPs who consoled Mengi included First Lady, Mama Anna Mkapa, retired president Ali Hassan Mwinyi and Energy and Minerals Minister Daniel Yona.

Communications and Transport Deputy Minister, Dr Maua Daftari, Public Service Management Minister, Dr Mary Nagu, State Minister for Information Mohamed Seif Khatib and Natural Resources and Tourism Minister Zakia Meghji, Libyan ambassador to Tanzania Bashir A. Bashir and the outgoing Ilala MP, Iddi Simba.

The others were: Inspector General of Police (IGP), Omar Mahita, Tanzania Commission for Aids (Tacaids) Chairman, Herman Lupogo, CRBD Bank managing director, Dr Charles Kimei, Mohamed Enterprises Tanzania Ltd (METL) Mohammed Dewji and African Media Group’s chief executive Franco Tramontano.

Religious leaders who consoled the Mengi family included Anglican Bishop of the Dodoma diocese, Peter Mwamasika.

In his message of condolence, the Bishop reminded the Christian faithful that human beings are sojourners on earth and death was the climax of it all.

Burial arrangements for Mutie are being made in Chake Chake Street, Masaki Dar es Salaam.
