President Benjamin Mkapa is tomorrow expected to inaugurate the first Muslim University in the history of the country in Morogoro region.
The Acting Chairman of the Muslim Development Foundation (MDF), Alhaj Said El Maamry, told a press conference in Dar es Salaam yesterday that top dignitaries from the Mainland and Zanzibar have been invited to attend the event.
They are the Vice-President, Dr Ali Mohamed Shein, Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Amani Abeid Karume and Prime Minister, Frederick Sumaye.
Others include retired President, former Primer Ministers, cabinet ministers, legislators, ambassadors and other members of the diplomatic corps.
According to El Maamry, the inauguration event would be held at the University campus in Morogoro tomorrow starting from 8am to around noon.
One of the primary objectives of establishing the MDF is forming, owning and running higher learning institutions with a view to produce professionals in different disciplines, he said.
President Mkapa officially launched the MDF in May last year at a colorful event that was broadcast live from the Diamond Jubilee Hall in Dar es Salaam.
The launching of the MDF was done along with a proposed plan for the establishment of a project that in the end would provide Muslims in the country with its first ever Islamic University.
In its first intake, the Muslim University has admitted a total of 165 students for a first degree in various disciplines including Education, Mass Communication and Islamic Studies.
