CCM, CUF in see-saw poll contest on Isles

Provisional results of the Zanzibar general election announced yesterday showed that the Isles main political rivals parties CCM and CUF have shared votes on the Islands on a geographical basis.
While CCM took most of the seats in Unguja, CUF swept the board in Pemba to signal that the presidential poll outcome would be close to call.
Unconfirmed reports indicated CUF had won all the 18 seats in Pemba constituencies, while CCM had retained most of its seats in Unguja.
The results, announced by yesterday evening by Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) Assistant Public Relations Officer Saleh Mnemo, showed that the Makunduchi constituency had been won by CCMs Haroun Ali Suleiman with 8,876 votes whereas, Jihadi Hassan Issa of CUF got 976 votes and Jahazi Asilias aspirant Madai Ali Madai bagged 115 votes.
CCMs Ramadhani Nyonje Pandu won Muyuni seat with 7,244 votes as against CUFs Suwa Suleiman Hassan who had 1,244 votes, while Haji Ibrahim Haji of Jahazi Asilia got 166 votes and Haji Hassan Kidogo of TLP ended up with 64 votes.
Zanzibar Minister of Works, Water, Energy and Land Burhan Saadat Haji retained his Kikwajuni seat with 7,209 votes, while CUFs Hassan Hamad Suwedi came second with 3,315 votes.
Jangombe constituency went to CCMs Suleiman Othman Nyanga who polled 8,780 votes against CUF, NLD and NRA parties candidates who had 2,644, 92 and 39 votes respectively.
CCM also won Mpendae seat through Mahmoud Thabit Kombo who garnered 6,183 votes against CUFs Juma Saidi Sanani who polled 2,844 votes.
Another CCM candidate Ali Denge Makame won Amani seat with 5,614, while the CUF aspirant, Dr Juma Ameir Muchi came second with 1,645 votes.
CCM also emerged tops in Kiembesamaki constituency with Mansour Yussuf Himid getting 4,718 votes and the CUF candidate Manzi Ibrahim Juma coming second with 1,198 votes.
Bumbwini constituency Said Khelef Ali of CCM got 5,852 votes against CUFs Zahran Juma Mshamba who followed with 3,396 votes, while the Magogoni seat went to CCMs Daud Hassan Daud who polled 4,174 while Nassor Khamis Mohamed of CUF garnered 3,154 votes.
The Magomeni seat was won by CCMs Salimin Awadh with 6,384 votes and Ali Haji Pandu of CUF was runner up with 3,660 votes.
In Pemba, CUF won 18 seats, with Micheweni constituency being taken by Subeth Khamis Faki who polled 6,388 votes followed by CCMs candidate who had 2,105 votes.
In Mtambwe constituency, Salim Abdullah Hamad (CUF) garnered 6,783 votes, while Mansour Suleiman Hemed (CCM) polled 367 and Ali Omar Hamad (SAU) got 82 votes.
In Gando, Said Ali Mbarouk (CUF) prevailed with 6,241 votes and Khamis Abeid Ali (CCM) was second with 855, Rashid Ali Haji (Chadema) 87 and Khadija Mohamed Ally (SAU) 26 votes.
In Ole constituency Hamad Masoud Hamad (CUF) won with 6,889, Yakub Khalfan Shaha (CCM) 985 votes, Asaha Yussuf Mohamed of (Jahazi Asilia) 19 and Salim Said Suleimani (Chadema) 121 votes.
Wete constituency went to Asaah Othman Hamad (CUF) who polled 7,856, Ahmed Salim Said (CCM) 1,337 and Fakih Bakari Fakih of (SAU) 34 votes, while in Micheweni Suberti Khamis Faki (CUF) got 6,388 to win the seat, while Salim Hamad Saleh (CCM) had 2,105 votes and Fatuma Sharif Juma of (TLP) 103 votes.
In Tumbe, Ali Mohamed Bakari of CUF won with 7,761 votes whereby Said Omar Said (CCM) came second with 642, while in Mgogoni constituency the former leader of the opposition in the House of Representatives Abubakari Khamis Bakari scooped (6365), Khamis Dadi Khamis (CCM) came second with 879 and Mbarouk Bakari Khamis had (315).
In Chambani constituency Abasi Juma Muhunzi of (UF) got 5183,Ali Hussein Bakari of (CCM) 683, Bakari Juma Yussuf of NCCR -Mageuzi 40,Ali Mussa Omar of (TLP) 59,and Siti Ussi Shaib of got (NRA) 13.
In Kiwani constituency Hija Hassan Hija (CUF) got 4702,Mussa Foum Mussa (CCM) 1648,Abdallah Mohamed Abdallah (NCCR-Mageuzi) 122.
In Mtambile constituency Muhydin Mohamed Muhydin (CUF) got 6631 votes, Mohamed Mgaza Jecha (CCM)1123 and Wahidi Khamis Mohamed (NCCR-Mageuzi) 122.
Mkoani constituency Mullah Muhamed Salim (CUF) got 4868, followed by Himid Omar Ali (CCM) who scooped 2,150 votes and Mussa Muhamed Hatibu (DP) who got 50.
Mohamed Othuman Juma (TADEA) got 13 and Fatuma Mohamed (UDP) got 18 votes.
Zanzibar has a total of 50 constituencies out of which 32 are in Unguja, a CCM stronghold, while 18 are in Pemba, a CUF enclave.
In Chakeckake Constituency, CUF candidate Omar Sheikh emerged winner with 6,572 votes against CCMs Selemani Khamis who polled 1,635 votes.
In Chonga, CUFs Abdallah Juma garnered 4,741 followed by the CCM candidate.
In Chumbwini, CCM candidate Machano A. Khamis won by 6,266 votes followed by the CUF candidate.
Meanwhile, ZEC chairman Masauni Yussuf Masauni announced yesterday that Sundays elections were free and fair.
However he conceded that there had been some shortcomings in a few wards including Kidoti, Pwani Mchangani, Welezo, Kizimbani, and Uzi and in Pemba Ngombeni and Changaweni.
Masauni also announced the presidential poll results could be ready today around midday.
